Family searches for missing Shiprock woman

FARMINGTON — A local family is looking for a Shiprock woman who disappeared earlier this month while walking to a friend's house.

Julia Vicente, 59, was last seen on June 3 when her husband Otto Vicente Sr. dropped her off about a mile away from their residence on the east side of Shiprock to visit a friend, according to Otto Vicente Jr.

The family realized something was wrong when Julia wasn't at the residence when her husband returned home on June 3. Typically, she would have had dinner ready before the evening church service.

Otto Sr. travels to the San Juan Center in Farmington and preaches for clients staying at the facility and performs the Navajo chapel at Open Bible Baptist Church in Waterflow, according to Otto Jr.

Julia is described as a Native American woman who is 5 feet tall and weighs 110 pounds with dark brown hair and a tan complexion.

She was last seen wearing a dark-blue shirt with light-blue sleeves, blue jeans and white tennis shoes, according to Otto Jr. Julia may have been carrying a lightweight green jacket.

Julia was reported missing on June 6, and family members have been distributing fliers around the area with information to identify her.

Searches have been conducted in the Shiprock area, including the northeast side and around the Shiprock pinnacle.

Otto Jr. described his mother as someone who enjoyed walking to visit friends and family members as it helped "walk out" her arthritis. He is one of six siblings and said Julia has 10 grandchildren.
