Residents of both Farmington and Bloomfield will have the opportunity this weekend to do a little spring cleaning as free trash disposal events are planned in both communities.

Farmington Clean & Beautiful will hold its spring Dumpster Weekend from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14 at Berg Park, 514 Scott Ave. in Farmington. Yard trimmings, metal, cardboard, household nonhazardous trash will be accepted. Refrigerators or freezers also will be accepted, although there is a limit of two per household, and up to eight tires per household will be accepted.

Concrete, bricks and commercial loads will not be accepted.

The yard waste cannot include any Russian olive or pyracantha trimmings, as they would render the mulch that is produced from them unusable, according to organizers. The trimmings must be 5 inches or less in diameter to be accepted.

The event is open to Farmington residents only, and proof of residency will be required. There is no charge for the service.

Farmington and Bloomfield both will hold community clean-up days this weekend with residents invited to dispose of certain unwanted household materials for free.

Call 505-599-1426 for more information about the event. To arrange for the free pickup of household hazardous waste or electronics, call 800-449-7587.

The free Community Clean-up Day in Bloomfield will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13 in front of the Super 8 by Wyndham hotel at 525 W. Broadway Ave.

The event is being presented by the Bloomfield Parks and Recreation Department, which is encouraging residents to take the opportunity tidy up their yards by removing unwanted materials. Business owners are being asked to participate, as well, and volunteers are being sought to help clean up the city’s streets.
