Plenty of Halloween activities planned across San Juan County as holiday nears

Halloween celebrations throughout San Juan County will get off to an early start this week and continue through and after the Oct. 31 holiday.

A variety of haunted houses, pumpkin-carving events, festivals, costume contests, fundraising events, carnivals, lectures, car shows, harvest sales, climbing events, trick-or-treating event and even a Day of the Dead musical theater production will be offered over the next week and a half.

Here is a day-by-day listing of events.

Monday, Oct. 23

Funday Monday Halloween: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Riverside Nature Center in Animas Park off Browning Parkway in Farmington. Participants are encouraged to come dressed in a costume and take part in a pumpkin-decorating activity. Free. Call 505-599-1590.

Haunted Toy Factory Halloween: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 23 through Oct. 26 and 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 27 through Oct. 31 at the Fly High Trampoline Park, 1650 E. 20th St. in Farmington. Admission is $8. Call 505-787-2677.

Tuesday, Oct. 24

Costume dodgeball: 6 p.m. at the Health and Human Performance Center on the San Juan College campus, 4601 College Blvd. in Farmington. Free. Call 505-566-3819.

Thursday, Oct. 26

Robert’s Halloween Maze: 6 to 11 p.m. through Oct. 31 at 507 E. Maple Ave. in Bloomfield. Free, but donations are welcome.

 “Little Shop of Horrors": Presented by the Four Corners Musical Theatre Company, continues at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 through Oct. 28 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Farmington Civic Center, 200 W. Friday, Oct. 27

Haunted Eve at the River Edge Pumpkin Patch: 3 to 8:30 p.m., 8 County Road 1115 in La Plata. The event includes thrifted painting and a haunted maze. Costumes are encouraged. Admission ranges from $7 to $12. Call 505-444-1662.

Fright Fest Halloween Costume Contest: 7 to 10 p.m. at the Flowing Water Casino, 2710 U.S. Highway 64 in Shiprock. Prizes range from $100 to $300 in such categories as best couple, scariest, most creative and most original. No cover. Call 505-368-2300.

SunRay’s Haunted Stables: 7:30 to 10 p.m. Oct. 27-28, 7 to midnight Oct. 30-31 at SunRay Park & Casino, 39 County Road 5568 between Farmington and Bloomfield. Admission is $10. Proceeds benefit San Juan Special Olympics. Call 505-566-1200.

Saturday, Oct. 28

Fall Bazaar and Carnival: Presented by the Farmington Municipal School District bus drivers, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the McGee Park Convention Center, 41 County Road 5568 between Farmington and Bloomfield. The event includes games, treats, a crafts show and two haunted school buses. Free.

Third annual ECHO Inc. Zombie Run: 9 a.m. in Berg Park, 400 Scott Ave. in Farmington. All proceeds support ECHO Inc.’s services and operations. Wear your best zombie outfit. Registration is $35. Call 505-325-7466.

F.A.S.T. Kids Trick-or-Treat Ride: 10 a.m. to noon at the San Juan College Bike Park, 3358 College Blvd. in Farmington. Kids are encouraged to ride the trail while adults hand out candy at various stops. Free. Call 505-793-5233.

Hills Fall Festival: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hills Church, 5101 N. Dustin Ave. The event includes food trucks, a photo booth, carnival games, a DJ, face painting, trunk or treat, a petting zoo, hay rides and more. Free. Call 505-325-4541.

Halloween Carnival: noon to 5 p.m. at the Health and Human Performance Center on the San Juan College campus, 4601 College Blvd. in Farmington. The event includes booths, games, activities and a costume contest. Activities range from 25 cents to $1.

Second annual Spooky Pooch and Wolfies Too Pet Costume Contest: 1 to 6 p.m. at Locke Street Eats, 112 N. Locke Ave. in downtown Farmington. Registration is $10.

4-H Fall Festival: 2 to 6 p.m. at the Growing Forward Farm, 216 S. Oliver Drive in Aztec. The event includes hay rides, an antique tractor show, a corn maze, a costume contest, a dog costume contest and snacks. Free. Call 505-334-9496.

Trans-Fur-Mations Trunk-or-Treat: 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Mesa Plaza Shopping Center, 1016 N. Butler Ave. in Farmington. The event includes games, candy and a photo booth. Leashed dogs are welcome. Free.

Fright Night: presented by the San Juan County Sheriff’s Posse and Toys for Tots, 6 to 9 p.m. at the San Juan County Sheriff’s Posse Arena, 9001 Marseille Blvd. in Farmington. The event includes dinner and a movie. Admission is $10 and an unwrapped toy worth more than $5.

Black and White All Hallow’s Eve Gala: presented by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Farmington, 7 to 11 p.m. at the Triple J Ranch, 215 County Road 6100. The event includes food, live music by Joker’s Wild and a DJ. Tickets are $100. Call 505-327-6396.
