Vehicle theft suspect arrested by police

FARMINGTON — Salvador Sanchez-Ocano Jr., a Bloomfield man accused of 13 charges, including four counts of vehicle theft, was arrested Wednesday. 

Sanchez-Ocano Jr., 21, is accused of many charges, including four counts of unlawful taking of a vehicle or motor vehicle, a count of larceny (more than $2,500 but no more than $20,000), a count of larceny (under $250), two counts of theft of a credit card and two counts of burglary of a vehicle, according to court documents. 

He was arrested around 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Cedar Ridge Apartment complex at 609 E. 30th St., according to Farmington Police Department spokeswoman Georgette Allen.

Before the local charges were filed, he was arrested by the Mesa County Sheriff's Office in Colorado on Aug. 14. and released on Aug 24.

He is accused of five charges by the Mesa County Sheriff's Office for aggravated motor vehicle theft and criminal trespass, according to court documents.

The charges in San Juan County accuse Sanchez-Ocano Jr. of stealing a Chevy pickup truck, a Toyota pickup truck, a Polaris all-terrain vehicle and a car hauler trailer, according to the criminal complaint. 

He is also accused of two vehicle burglaries, being in the possession of two stolen credit cards and stealing a purse and a wallet.

Sanchez-Ocano Jr. made his first appearance Thursday morning in Farmington Magistrate Court.

He was being held at the San Juan County Adult Detention Center as of this afternoon on a $20,000 cash at 10 percent bond.

Sanchez-Ocano Jr.'s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
